The Ring Road (Route 1) circles Iceland in roughly 1,332 km. Most travellers need seven to ten days to enjoy it without rushing. Classic south-coast highlights include Seljalandsfoss, Skógafoss, Reynisfjara black-sand beach, and Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon — allow two full days minimum.

North Iceland rewards with Lake Mývatn geothermal fields, Dettifoss, and whale watching from Húsavík. The Eastfjords offer dramatic serpentine roads and fewer coaches. West Iceland adds Snæfellsnes Peninsula if you skip the full loop or extend your trip.

Rent a 4x4 if travelling October–April or if your route includes F-roads (mountain tracks). Fuel and food are pricey — shop at Bonus or Krónan supermarkets, pack lunches, and book accommodation months ahead for summer.

Fly into Keflavík (KEF), pick up your car at the airport, and compare shoulder-season fares on SnagAFlight. May and September balance daylight, road conditions, and northern-lights possibility.
